Olive Wrist Wraps for the Gym – with Thumb Loop
The Gym Generation wrist wraps in olive support the joint on heavy pressing work: 25 cm wraps in a cotton-elastic weave with a black Velcro closure and a thumb loop. They hold the wrist in a stable position when it gets pushed back under the bar on bench press, shoulder press or dips. How firm the support sits is down to how you wrap them. One size, sold as a pair, for men and women.
Made for strength training, bodybuilding, weightlifting and calisthenics. If you also want to take load off your grip on pulling work, pair them with lifting straps; for hand protection and wrist support in one piece, look at the leather gloves with a built-in wrap. Developed by Gym Generation, a Swiss brand for training and strength gear since 2013.
Olive with a Black Velcro Band
Most wrist wraps are black. This version comes in olive with a black Velcro band and a black logo patch – a clear two-tone contrast instead of plain black. Technically identical to the black version: same length, same weave, same thumb loop.
Stability on Heavy Pressing
On bench press, shoulder press and dips the load acts on the hand in a way that tips the wrist backwards. The heavier the weight, the stronger that pull. The wrap puts a firm cuff around the joint and holds it closer to neutral, so the force runs straight through the forearm and hand. That gives you a more stable feel under the bar and more control in the heavy sets.
Thumb Loop and Velcro Closure
The thumb loop anchors the wrap while you put it on, so it does not shift as you wind it: loop over the thumb, pull the wrap firmly around the wrist, close the Velcro, then slip the loop back off. How firm the support sits is down to you – light for high reps, tight for heavy singles. Between sets you loosen them in one movement.
25 cm Length in a Cotton-Elastic Weave
At 25 cm per wrap these sit in the middle of the range: long enough for several turns and a solid hold, short enough to get on and off quickly between exercises. The weave is half cotton and half elastic fabric – comfortable against the skin, it takes up sweat, and it gives under tension without going slack.
Olive Wrist Wraps – Frequently Asked Questions
Is 25 cm long enough?
For gym training, yes. 25 cm gives you several turns around the joint and a firm hold, and it goes on and off in seconds. The 60 cm-plus wraps you see in powerlifting are built for competition singles and take noticeably longer to apply – more support than most pressing work needs.
Wrist wraps or lifting straps – what is the difference?
Two different jobs. Wrist wraps brace the joint on pressing work; they do nothing for your grip. Lifting straps wrap the bar and take the weight off your grip on pulling work; they do not stabilise the wrist. If you press heavy, you want wraps. If your hands give out on deadlifts, you want straps.
Are wrist wraps worth it for general gym training?
On heavy pressing, yes. They keep the wrist in a more stable position when it gets pushed back under load, which gives you more control on bench press, shoulder press and dips. For light sets and warm-ups you do not need them, and if you want to build wrist strength as well, train part of your work without. If you already have wrist pain, speak to a doctor or physiotherapist rather than covering it up with a wrap.
How tight should they be?
Tight enough that you feel the wrist supported, without the hand tingling or going cold. For high reps and lighter sets a looser wrap is enough; for heavy singles you pull tighter. Because you set the support through the wrap itself, the same pair covers both cases.
How do I wash them?
Cold hand wash and air dry – not in the tumble dryer and not on a radiator. That keeps both the elasticity and the Velcro intact. Let them air out between sessions.
