Leather Weight Lifting Gloves – Built-In Wrist Wrap
The Gym Generation leather gloves in black pair a padded suede palm with a long wrist wrap built into the glove. As gym gloves with wrist support they keep the palm off the knurling and give you controlled contact on the bar. The wrap is roughly 35 cm long and you wind it yourself, so the level of support is down to you – it earns its place most on bench press, shoulder press and overhead work. Mesh and elastic knit panels across the back keep the glove mobile and let heat out. 80% leather, sizes S to XL, closed with Velcro. Sold as a pair, for men and women.
Developed by Gym Generation, a Swiss brand for training and strength gear since 2013.
The Padded Suede Palm
The palm is the heart of the glove: suede with a layer of foam underneath. The suede sits directly against the bar and gives you controlled contact on pulling work, while the foam takes the pressure of the bar off the heel and base of the hand. Together they cut the friction where the palm carries the most. The padding sits only where the load does – the open fingers keep their movement and a direct feel on the grip.
A Wrap, Not a Tab
This is where the glove differs from most training gloves. There is no short Velcro tab at the wrist but a wrap around 35 cm long that you wind firmly around the joint and close with Velcro. How firm the support sits is down to how you wind it – light to tight. That gives you hold on the lifts that push the wrist backwards: bench press, military press and shoulder press. Glove and wrap are one piece, so you do not need separate wraps on top.
Leather, Mesh and Elastic Knit
The glove is mostly leather, which is hard-wearing and moulds to the shape of your hand with use. Across the back sit a mesh insert that lets heat escape and elastic knit panels that give as you close your fingers. That keeps the glove mobile and airy despite the leather.
Leather Gloves – Frequently Asked Questions
Leather or synthetic – which suits me?
Leather is hard-wearing, lasts, and moulds to the hand over time – the right choice for heavy strength training and for a glove you want to keep for years. A synthetic model is lighter and airier and suits fast, sweaty sessions with a lot of movement. If you want grip and durability rather than minimum weight, take the leather; for long, sweat-heavy sessions the lighter synthetic is the better tool.
What size do I take?
They run true to size, and the size is set by your measured hand circumference, not by gender. If you fall between two sizes, take the smaller one – leather gives a little with wear. The exact measurements are in the size chart on this page.
Are gym gloves worth it for strength training?
On heavy lifting, yes. They keep the palm off rough knurling, give more control, and with the built-in wrap they support the wrist on pressing work. If you specifically want to build grip strength, train part of your work without gloves; for volume, heavy sets and protecting the palm they earn their place.
Do I still need separate wrist wraps?
No. The wrap is part of the glove and wound the same way a standalone wrap is, so on pressing work it does the same job. If you want to change the level of support independently of the glove, or you press very heavy and want a longer wrap, that is the point to use separate wraps.
Can I wash them?
Not in the machine. Wipe them down after training and let them air dry, off the radiator. That keeps the leather supple and the wrap in shape.
