Men's Black Aesthetic Gym Shorts – Retro Cut
The Aesthetic gym shorts in black are lightweight men's training shorts in thin polyester, with white contrast piping and the Gym Generation lettering embroidered in white. Cut short and close to the body, with an elastic waistband and drawcord, two side pockets and a sewn-in mesh liner. Available in sizes S to XL.
This is the body-hugging aesthetic cut of the golden era of bodybuilding, in the most neutral of the four colours. Gym Generation has been a Swiss gymwear brand since 2013; the Aesthetic is the short retro pair in the range, made for leg and bodybuilding work on warm days.
A cut that stops well above the knee
These shorts are deliberately short – the look of the golden era of bodybuilding, which leaves the thigh and the quads on show. The curved leg hem and the white piping along the sides and pockets are what make it read as retro rather than just brief. The Gym Generation lettering sits embroidered in white at the bottom of the leg.
Thin polyester and a sewn-in mesh liner
The polyester is thin enough to stay out of the way on a warm day, and it dries quickly when a session runs hard. The mesh liner is sewn in and does the holding, which is what lets the shorts be cut this short in the first place. Two side pockets take keys and small items, and the drawcord sets the waist.
Black as the base colour of the range
Of the four Aesthetic colours, black is the one that asks nothing of the rest of your kit – it goes with a tank top, a stringer or a hoodie without a second thought. Take it if you want the cut without the colour doing the talking.
Aesthetic Gym Shorts – Frequently Asked Questions
What is the aesthetic cut?
A deliberately short, close-fitting cut that leaves the thigh and quads on show – the shape that came out of the aesthetic and Zyzz era in bodybuilding. It puts the leg musculature front and centre and wears lighter than a knee-length gym short.
Which colour should I pick?
All four are the same short, so it comes down to how loud you want to be. Black is the quiet one, blue reads as colour without shouting, red is a step up and yellow is the loudest in the range.
Can you wear them without the liner?
The mesh liner is sewn in, so it stays. Most people wear the shorts as they are; if you prefer more coverage on leg day, a pair of compression shorts underneath works with this cut.
How does the sizing run?
Short and close to the body – that is the cut, not a sizing error. The elastic waistband with the drawcord adjusts to you; if you want more room at the leg, go a size up.
Are these swim shorts?
No. The mesh liner is there for support and airflow during training, not for the water. These are training shorts – for the gym, not the pool.
