Calisthenics Grips – Hand Grips for Pull-Ups and Gymnastics

The Gym Generation workout grips are 3-hole hand grips in a carbon look with a padded wrist wrap. Index, middle and ring finger go through the three holes, the pad sits between hand and bar and gives you firm grip on pull-ups, toes-to-bar, muscle-ups and kettlebell swings. As calisthenics grips and gymnastic grips they keep blisters, tears and abrasion off the palm, without a bulky glove taking the feel of the bar away. Hard-wearing microfibre with a textured carbon surface, in four sizes from S to XL.

Developed by Gym Generation, a Swiss brand for training and strength gear since 2013.

Firm Grip on the Bar and the Rings

The pad grips the bar harder than bare skin does. On pull-ups, muscle-ups, toes-to-bar and kettlebell swings your grip lasts longer, you get more clean reps and you do not cut a set short because the hands gave out. The textured surface holds when you sweat and on powder-coated or smooth bars.

Three Finger Holes and a Wrist Wrap

The three holes give the grip a secure, ergonomic seat and leave the hand its natural movement. The padded wrist wrap with Velcro and a metal D-ring supports the joint and pulls up to exactly the tension you want, firm without cutting in. The grip stays put and your hands are free for the next exercise.

Protection Without Losing the Bar

Instead of thick gloves that take the feel away, hand grips leave you a direct connection to the bar while keeping calluses and torn skin off the palm. If your hands are already worn from the week, you train on with grips rather than taking days off.

Gymnastic Grips for Calisthenics and Street Workout

What has been standard in gymnastics for decades has carried over into calisthenics and street workout: a pad that rolls over the bar and spares both the skin and your grip strength. These grips follow the same principle, with a padded wrist wrap added. For anyone doing high volume on the bar who wants their hands intact in six weeks' time.

Four Sizes for the Right Seat

Hand grips have to fit, or they travel on the bar. Measure your hand circumference just below the knuckles, without the thumb: S fits 18 to 20.5 cm, M 21 to 23 cm, L 24 to 25 cm and XL 26 to 27 cm. A grip that fits rolls cleanly over the bar and gives you the feeling that the hand is holding tighter than it would on its own.

Calisthenics Hand Grips – Frequently Asked Questions

What are hand grips and how do they work?
Hand grips, also called calisthenics grips or gymnastic grips, are pads worn through three finger holes that sit between the palm and the bar. As you close your hand the pad rolls around the bar and forms a second layer that takes the friction. That keeps blisters and tears off and gives you more hold than the bare hand.

Do I still need chalk with them?
Not necessarily. The textured surface holds on the bar without chalk, including with sweaty hands and on smooth or powder-coated bars. You can still use chalk, but you do not have to.

Are they suitable for beginners?
Yes. Anyone training regularly on the bar who wants to protect their hands from blisters and hold on longer benefits from them, whether you are building your first clean pull-ups or running high volume as an advanced athlete.

Are these the same as parallettes or floor grips?
No. These are worn on the hand and sit between the palm and the bar. Parallettes and floor grips are equipment that stands on the ground, used for push-ups, handstands and dips. If you want hold on the pull-up bar, this is the right product.

Hand grips or gym gloves?
Hand grips leave the hand almost free and give a direct feel for the bar, which suits pull-ups and high volume on the bar. Gym gloves cover the whole palm and also protect on dumbbell work. If you train mainly on the bar, take grips; if you mix barbells and machines, gloves or grip pads are more flexible.

How do I care for them?
Wipe the grips down after training to take off sweat and residue, and let them air dry. Not in the washing machine or the tumble dryer, so pad, wrap and Velcro keep their shape.
