Compass Patch – Embroidered Velcro Patch with a Wind Rose
The Compass patch from Gym Generation is a shield-shaped, embroidered hook and loop patch in muted olive and sand tones: an eight-point wind rose with the cardinal points N, E, S and W, set in a ring with a banner at the top and bottom. Its hook backing sticks to the loop panels on backpacks, vests and outdoor gear.
Wind Rose with Eight Points
At the centre sits a classic wind rose: four long points for the cardinal directions, four shorter ones for the intercardinals, each embroidered in a light and a dark shade for a three-dimensional look. The letters N, E, S and W sit on the outer ring, with four small circles at the ends of the diagonals. For centuries the wind rose has been the sign of orientation – on nautical charts, compasses and maps.
Subdued Tones in Olive and Sand
Instead of bold colours, the patch works with muted tones from one family: olive, sand and khaki. The detail comes from shading and stitch direction, not contrasting colours. On olive, sand or black gear it blends in quietly and still reads clearly. The Viking Compass Patch, with the Vegvísir symbol, draws on the same imagery.
Compass Patch FAQ
Velcro patch or sew-on patch?
It's a Velcro patch, also known as a morale patch: the back is the hook side of a hook and loop fastener and sticks to any loop surface. Attaching, removing and swapping takes seconds. For a permanent fix, you can also sew it on around the edge.
What does the patch stick to?
Any loop surface – such as the loop panels on Gym Generation backpacks, vests, caps or jackets with hook and loop. It won't stick to smooth fabric without a loop counterpart.
How is it different from the Viking Compass Patch?
The Compass Patch shows a classic wind rose with the cardinal points in olive and sand. The Viking Compass Patch shows the Icelandic Vegvísir, round and embroidered in high contrast.
Are there more outdoor patches?
Yes. The Mountain Patch and The Mountains Are Calling Patch share the theme; you'll find the full range in our hook and loop patches.
