Navy SEALs Patch - Hook and Loop

Navy SEALs Patch: Trident and Flag in Grey on Black

This Navy SEALs patch is an embroidered hook and loop patch in a subdued finish, approx. 8 × 5 cm: the US flag and the Trident in grey on a black ground, with NAVY SEALS lettering. No colour contrast – tone on tone.

Subdued Finish in Grey on Black

Subdued patches come from field use. Coloured insignia stand out clearly at a distance and in low light; muted tone-on-tone versions barely do – which is why subdued variants took over wherever visibility was unwanted. On civilian gear, it's the look that carries over: the patch reads as texture rather than a splash of colour, yet stays fully legible up close. On black or dark grey material it almost disappears into the surface, which makes it far more understated than any full-colour flag patch.

Trident over the US Flag

The design combines two elements. The US flag, with its star field and stripes, forms the background. Over it sits the Trident: an eagle with its head lowered, holding an anchor, a trident and a flintlock pistol. The four parts stand for the unit's operating domains – hence the acronym SEAL for Sea, Air and Land. On this patch the Trident is the densest piece of embroidery, so the wings and trident are worked in fine detail.

Subdued Effect on Dark Gear and Patch Boards

The hook backing grips any loop surface: MOLLE backpacks with a loop field, loop panels on vests and jackets, gym bags with a patch panel. Our gym backpacks come with the panel built in, and on black nylon the subdued finish is at its best. Some of these patches never go on gear at all and end up on patch boards and collection walls instead. More designs are in the hook and loop patches collection.

Navy SEALs Patch FAQ

Is this an official insignia?
No. It's a design and collector's patch on open sale, not a service insignia and not licensed equipment. It proves no training and no membership of any unit.

Can I wear it on a uniform?
No. Insignia that aren't your own have no place on a service uniform, whatever the country. That doesn't apply to private gear, backpacks, vests and jackets.

Is it still visible on light-coloured material?
Yes – even more so than on black. The grey stands out against light surfaces, while the black ground provides the contrast. The understated effect comes mainly from dark material.

Does the grey lose contrast over time?
Hardly. The colour is in the embroidery thread rather than a coating, and muted tones show fading less than strong colours anyway. After it gets wet, take it off and let it air-dry.
