Canada Molon Labe Patch – Spartan Helmet and Maple Leaf in Bronze
The Canada Molon Labe patch from Gym Generation is a rectangular, embroidered Velcro patch, split diagonally: the Canadian flag with its maple leaf top left, the Spartan helmet above the Greek inscription ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ bottom right. The whole design is embroidered in bronze on a sand-grey ground, with a hook backing.
Molon Labe in the Original Greek
ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ means “Come and take them.” According to Plutarch, it was the reply of the Spartan king Leonidas when the Persian king Xerxes demanded the Spartans' weapons at Thermopylae in 480 BC. Ever since, the phrase has stood for holding firm against superior force. On the patch it sits in Greek capitals beneath the helmet with its horsehair crest.
Canada Flag in Bronze, Split Diagonally
The upper half shows the Canadian flag: two side bands and the maple leaf in the centre, embroidered in bronze instead of red. That keeps the patch tone on tone – muted rather than loud. The diagonal separates flag and helmet and ties them into one design, for anyone with a link to Canada and a soft spot for the Spartans. The same colour scheme without the flag is the Molon Labe Patch Bronze; the classic Canada Flag Patch comes in red and white.
Canada Molon Labe Patch FAQ
Velcro patch or sew-on patch?
It's a Velcro patch, also known as a morale patch: the back is the hook side and sticks to any loop surface. Attaching, removing and swapping it takes seconds. For a permanent fix, you can also sew it on around the edge.
What does Molon Labe mean?
Molon Labe is Ancient Greek for “Come and take them.” The words are attributed to King Leonidas before the Battle of Thermopylae in 480 BC.
What does the patch stick to?
Any loop surface – such as the loop panels on Gym Generation backpacks, vests, caps or jackets with hook and loop. It won't stick to smooth fabric without a loop panel.
Are there more country patches?
Yes. Every national flag, along with all our other designs, is in the hook and loop patches collection.
Good quality product, the materials are very good, good colors, as exposed by the seller.
